About Our Worship

What is worship like?

Jesus said that true worshipers must worship in “spirit and truth” (John 4:24). Our worship must be sincere — from the heart — and according to the instructions in the Bible. Our worship praises the Lord and at the same time instructs and encourages the congregation.

A cappella singing

Though various instruments were part of Old Testament worship, instruments are not mentioned or used to accompany singing in New Testament worship. The only music authorized for Christian worship was “singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord” (Ephesians 5:19). Desiring to follow closely the New Testament pattern and commands, we sing a cappella — without instruments, with our whole hearts. As a visitor you are encouraged to sing with us as you feel comfortable.

Communion every Sunday

Every Sunday is the Lord’s Day. Christians assemble for worship on this day and remember the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus by taking the Lord’s Supper, also called communion. Jesus commanded that we eat unleavened bread and drink the fruit of the vine (grape juice) to remind us of His body and blood that were sacrificed for our sins (Luke 22:19-20).

If you understand the significance of this act and take it seriously, you are welcome to share in this simple meal. However, it is not intended for children or for those who have not obeyed the gospel of Christ in baptism (see Baptism below). As the trays are passed: take and eat one of the pieces of bread/cracker when that tray is passed; then take one of the small cups and drink the grape juice when that tray is passed; afterward you may place the cup back into the tray.

The collection

Directly following the Lord’s Supper on Sunday morning, a collection tray is passed. You as a visitor will not be asked to put anything into it. This is our duty and joy as members of the Lord's church to give cheerfully to support the work of the Gospel.

Worship leaders

Various men of the congregation lead our worship in song, prayer, lessons, sermons, and the Lord’s Supper. It is our responsibility as the spiritual leaders of our families to serve the congregation in this manner.

Invitation song

Our usual practice is to offer an invitation at the conclusion of the sermon. This provides an opportunity for those in need to respond to the Bible message — whether to obey the gospel in confessing Christ and baptism, to repent of personal sin, or to request prayers for special needs.

Baptism

In the New Testament, persons who were convinced by the gospel were baptized immediately. When someone responds to the invitation to be baptized and become a Christian, the baptism will ordinarily occur immediately, while the congregation is still assembled to witness the event and rejoice in the new birth. Sometimes a baptism will take place in private, if requested. The important thing is not the time or place, but that a penitent believer is willing to be immersed in Christ’s name for the forgiveness of his or her sins (Acts 22:16). The baptistery (a pool of water sufficient for full immersion) and appropriate clothing are available at all times, 24/7.

How long is the service?

Bible classes on Sunday morning and Wednesday evening last about 45 minutes. Sunday morning worship typically lasts about an hour. After Wednesday class there is a short devotional which ends around 8:00pm.

What about my kids?

During Bible studies on Sunday morning and Wednesday evening, we split up the children by age (0–18) for classes with our teachers. If you would prefer that your kids sit with you during class, that is okay. During worship, we believe the best way for children to learn to honor God is for their parents to teach them how to act in worship. We also have a nursery equipped with a speaker so you can still follow the service if you would feel more comfortable there.
